Liberal Faith Without Borders: A New Kind of Pop-Up Global Worship Connecting African Communities, Black Women, Girls, and Femmes, and U-U Allies

United States, 25th Dec 2025 - Sister Souurce, Inc., the first organization dedicated to spiritually expansive Black Unitarian Universalist women, girls, and femmes, is launching a new pop-up global worship pilot connecting African communities, Black women and girls, and U/U allies through shared leadership, progressive theology, and hands-on faith formation.

The Global Worship Exchange (GWE) Global Worship Exchange| Sister Souurce grew out of the momentum and reach of Rev. Crystal Saiyge’s global installation service as Executive Director, which brought together more than 250 participants, including 130 attendees across Kenya. The strength of that international participation revealed both the appetite and the relational infrastructure for an ongoing, cross-border worship model rooted in mutual exchange rather than one-directional presentation.

Founded in 2021 to serve Black women and girls in the United States, Sister Souurce deepened its global engagement following a 2024 pilgrimage across the African continent. Through conversations with thousands of Unitarian Universalists, particularly in Kenya, the organization encountered a shared desire for theological grounding, community connection, and leadership development across differences of language, geography, and ritual. Those insights shaped GWE as a model focused not on exporting belief, but on building faith infrastructure in relationship.

Beginning December 27 at 11:00 a.m. (USA Eastern Time) on Zoom, Sister Souurce will anchor a monthly Global Worship Exchange (GWE) featuring liberal theology, progressive preaching, queer-affirming leadership, and shared Unitarian Universalist learning. Each service follows a collaborative rhythm, with fellowship time for Kenyan participants at 10:00 a.m. ET and a Unitarian Universalist lesson at 10:30 a.m. ET, culminating in a fully integrated global worship experience. Leaders from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kenya will present portions of each monthly GWE service, participating in a learn-by-doing approach that strengthens local capacity while fostering shared leadership and mutual accountability across continents.  “As African women and faith leaders, we bring wisdom, resilience, and lived theology into global worship spaces. The Global Worship Exchange honors our voices and creates room for shared leadership that strengthens both local communities and global Unitarian Universalist connections,”  explains Alice Magara, UUCK Women Leader 

In addition to worship, Sister Souurce hosts programming that invites U/U allies and broader audiences to celebrate Black joy, creativity, and spiritual expansiveness alongside Black women, girls, and femmes, reinforcing partnership rather than charity.

Sister Souurce is pleased to welcome its first sponsor, the UU Worldwide Youth Network (UUWYN, pronounced “you-win”). UUWYN will support the first Global Worship Exchange (GWE) service by contributing toward food, water, and internet/data access for local watch parties.

Looking ahead, Sister Souurce plans to expand the Global Worship Exchange (GWE) into additional countries in 2026, continuing its mission to empower presence, amplify voices, and create connection for spiritually expansive Black women, girls, and femmes—while inviting U/U allies into shared responsibility for a liberal faith without borders, and becoming a model for congregations seeking meaningful global connection and exchange.
