LOS ANGELES, CA — April 9, 2024 — A new contender is challenging fast fashion’s stronghold on Amazon’s apparel marketplace. Data from e-commerce analytics firm Stackline reveals that Dokotoo, a California contemporary brand, saw its Gold Empire Line collection rank among the platform’s top 50 bestselling dresses within two weeks of its July 28 launch—an unusual feat for an unsponsored debut.
The 30-plus-piece collection, which is priced at an affordable price, combines Jazz Age-style metallic embroidery with machine-washable fabrics — a move that analysts attribute to the strategic use of Amazon’s consumer insights tools.
The collection’s geometric beading and metallic accents nod to Art Deco architecture, while drop waists and asymmetrical hemlines reflect modern sensibilities. Dokotoo’s Development Director Clara Winslet traced the concept to a 2019 exhibition on Jazz Age fashion at New York’s Metropolitan Museum.
