Following an internship at the United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, he further honed his expertise through a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine from 1970 to 1974.

A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Dorsey holds certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners (1970), the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (1975), and the American Board of Forensic Medicine (1998). His expertise extends across a wide range of orthopaedic specialties, including:

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Dorsey has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor (1992–2000) and later as an Associate Clinical Professor (2000–2010) at the University of California, Irvine. Beyond sports medicine, Dr. Dorsey has made significant contributions to forensic medicine and medico-legal evaluations. He is a certified Agreed Medical Examiner (AME), Medical Examiner (ME), and Qualified Medical Examiner (QME), with extensive experience in orthopaedic evaluations and expert testimony. 40% of his practice is dedicated to consultation services, making him a trusted authority in medical-legal cases.
